Ardallie Cup Final
Fyvie 0 Elizabethan Link Up 1
Favourites Fyvie faced Elizabethan Link Up in the Final of the Ardallie Cup. Fyvie who have been in excellent form in the run up to the Final. As is often the case in Cup Finals, the opening quarter of the game was somewhat cagey. a combination of both sides trying to psyche both themselves and the opposition out, along with the difficult Ardallie pitch. First chance for the Lizzie came from a free kick from dep was fumbled by the Fyvie keeper under pressure from Shane Wall, dropped at the feet of Noble who looked to have been gifted simply sticking it into a empty net, but he couldn’t get any purchase on the ball as it was scrapped of the line. Fyvie broke upfield and a mix up in communication between Robertson and keeper Sinclair and as the ball trickled towards the goals, Nicol was on hand to clear. Fyvie striker was a menace for the Link Up defence and a shot from the left was tipped over the bar by Sinclair.
HT 0 – 0
The second half started and Link up were forced into an early change with when Forsyth came off injured and was replaced by Duthie before the pre-planned swap of striker Stewart for Matthew Byiers. Just minutes later that switch paid off. Noble played a neat one – two with replacement before a flick of the left foot sent the ball searing into the top corner from the edge of the box. Fyvie responded by bringing a physical striker Ricard Fisher to try and claw themselves back into the game. The had a few half chances but the ball just wouldn’t fall for the Fyvie strikers. The Lizzie had a few chances to kill off the game but Byiers wasted a gilt-edge chance when through on goal, he shot straight at the Fyvie keeper then Wall missed a chance when it looked easier to score. Link Up had a big claim for a penalty waived aside by the referee. The full-time whistle sparked celebrations amongst the Lizzy players, Management and spectators. FT 0 – 1
