Newline Building Supplies League 2
LINK Up and Glenugie had to settle for a point apiece after an enthralling draw in Peterhead.
As was the case in the Ardallie Cup game between the games this season, Ugie snatched a draw in the final few moments from two goals behind.

Greg Simpson had an early dig blocked by the keepers' feet but on eight minutes Link Up were ahead.
Clint Cassie clipped a ball up the line with Shane WALL knocking it down with his head and rifling it across the keeper with eight minutes gone.

They nearly had a second soon after when Simpson was denied from close range with Wall narrowly heading over the delivery on the rebound.
Link Up kept up the early pressure as John MacKinnon had a header kept out on the line but they were made to pay for not converting those chances as Glenugie knocked home from a corner on the quarter-hour mark.
MacKinnon then clipped the post as the Lizzie looked for a quick response, however he had a hand in the second goal just five minutes before the break.
WALL was sent racing through by his strike partner and left one-on-one, hammering the ball into the top corner from just inside the box.
If the Lizzie had the better of the first half chances then Ugie certainly did in the second.
Link Up had a let-off when the home striker was left open in the centre but blazed over, with Ugie twice striking the post in the closing quarter of the game.
But the Lizzie looked to have secured a massive victory with nine minutes remaining when Graeme MCLEMAN's free-kick from just inside the Glenugie half drifted over the heads of everyone in the box and dipping into the net.
Glenugie cranked up what was already a tense ending when they made it 3-2 three minutes from time.
And lightning was to strike twice when a Ugie attacker made enough contact from a corner to send a looping header into the net two minutes into stoppage time.

Methlick v Peterhead United-Minutes after kick off Methlick’s left winger M.Reid set his sights with the first shot of the game, turning inside right corner of box and getting a shot away bringing the first of many a fine Peterhead’s keeper’s saves.
Keen to impose their game Peterhead’s striker (10) headed wide right from a high looping cross originating down their left.
Thereafter a passage of dominating attack from the home side ensued. First Booth shot from 20yds, after M.Reid’s pass ballooned up towards the right edge of box, forcing an easy save at near post.
Then Gracey won header from a long ball, that fell to Anderson who dribbled forward and shot from edge of box, taking a deflection it went wide. Moments later Mitch shoots low left, saved. Resulting corner kick found Gracey who headed over. Another corner came to nothing as Stottie was deemed to have fouled his man. Quickly regaining possession Methlick pressed down the right with Anderson’s cross finding M.Reid who headed down but the bounce took it over the bar. Déjà vu not a minute later and M.Reid’s shot is tipped out for a corner, the wizard like left peg of Collie found the well bandaged heed of Stottie for his goal, 1-0.
Keen to stay in the game Peterhead pressed as best they could, striker 10 headed wide right from a cross, and seconds later a long free kick was met with a header but alas he was judged to be offside.
Captain Gracey won a loose ball, i Gracey dribbled through 3 players and stayed on his ballerina feet, calmly poking the ball to bottom right corner. 2-0.
Man on a mission Booth broke down the right edge of box, crossed low and found Kinnaird who forced an exceptional save from the Peterhead GK again. Next up was McDougall to neatly play into Anderson, who curled a ball to Collie whos scuffed shot went begging wide left. A moment later Methlick had a free-kick, taken by Kinnaird it was whipped into the danger area but well cleared by the defence…only to find the energetic Booth who ripped down the right side, giving the ball to Gracey, back to goal, searching for pizazz then back-heeled a tame effort to GK.
Another chance created by himself, M.Reid strutted forward…all the time in the world, and a well hit shot clips dust off the bar. Booth on his way to that MOTM breaks down the right centre, feeding Anderson who crossed but M.Reid couldn’t quite get purchase, shot gathered by GK. Putting on a show Booth pulled out a juicy Cruyff turn, let loose his afterburners down the left wing and crossed, only to find the spritely GK gathered in front of an oncoming attacker.
Then ensued quiet a dull 10 minutes, within which Firth cleared some danger, twice before M.Reid sent a shot inches over.
Perhaps sensing Methlick had took their foot off the pedal the away side managed a through ball to 9, but the friendly giant W.Reid sent in a slide tackle and somehow won a goal-kick.
HT. 2-0. Time for admin to pre-book his curry fae the view. Well played.
Second half got underway with Methlick looking refreshed, Booth looped a pass over the defence and M.Reid ran through flicking the bouncing ball up again over the GK and put it in the net but was given offside well before. Playing to the whistle and them some.
Anderson picked up loose clearance, looking far too early to cross he did precisely just that, crossing from deep with more spin than the PMQs...which found Gracey, who’d pulled away from his defender and headed hard low to bottom left. 3-0.
Not giving in the visitors 8 gathered a loose ball headed out to the edge of the Methlick box, rifling a beauty to the bottom left. Even the home crowd liked it. 3-1
Keen to regain their dominance Anderson bent a free kick to the back post, but Stottie didn’t quite make it in time. Coming from Alford perhaps nae surprise.
Collie then picked up a clearance from Ainslie, who fresh from the Ardallie cup final handbags punched clear a Peterhead free kick, he ran the length of pitch forcing a foul by 3. Yellow card. Another free-kick from Mr. Whippy was cleared by the defence for a corner, that was headed wide by Stottie.
Mr.Anderson then scored a tap in after Gracey showed a delicate first touch to get 5 yards around and past his defender and shooting from wide left his effort met the visitor’s GK’s flapping hands that pushed it into the sky for Anderson to make sure. 4-1 McDougall calmly controlled a clearance on his chest and volleyed the forward pass, finding Anderson who looped a shot over the bar.
Peterhead didn’t roll over and when awarded a free kick they made the most of some tired defending, a rebound from Ainslie’s save fell to #4 who slid it in. 4-2.
Methlick looked to fresh legs and subbed Summers on for Kinnaird, and later Taylor on for Gracey, captaincy handed to Booth who was still flying around like a blue bottomed fly.
Immediately into action Taylor saw a solid shot parried. First Taylor missed from close range, but then swiftly latched on to a clearance barely away from the centre circle in the opposition half he thumped the ball top bins. On good account it was deemed 36 yards. 5-2.

Longside Thistle travelled to St Combs for their penultimate league game of the season and emerged victorious in a 4-3 win.
Every game this year against St Combs (4 in total) has either been decided by 1 goal or ended in a draw and this cracking game was no different albeit it was the first time Thistle had got the better of their opponents.
Thistle started poorly, finding themselves a goal down in the opening 5 minutes but they responded superbly and although it was an even game, a goal from JJ Ironside, tapping home after Scott’s shot from Palla’s headed knock down evened things before Kieran Scott rose highest to a Park corner to head home thistle’s second of the game.
The score line could have been even more convincing but for some baffling offside decisions when both Palla and McNeil were clean through on goal. 1-2 half time and a happy Thistle management team.
The second half started at high tempo and thistle increased their lead again when McNeill tapped home from a yard from another great corner by Park.
Thistle seemed to be cruising but then out of nowhere lost a goal and suddenly it was 2-3. This spurred thistle into action again and a great solo goal by Jamie Elrick restored their 2 goal advantage although there were ugly scenes straight after this where St Combs should have been down to 10 men following an altercation between their centre half and Kieran Scott but the referee only deemed it worthy of a yellow card for both players. Minutes later the same centre half chopped down Scott when he was clean through on goal and somehow avoided a second yellow or even a straight red. The St Combs management team clearly realised this was a lucky escape and immediately substituted the centre half in question.
The game threatened to boil over due to some very dubious decisions with the players frustrations showing and the referee having lost complete control of the game shouted to the thistle management team inexplicably that they had been cheating all game - a mindless, unfair and unbelievable comment from a match official.
St Combs pulled another goal back with 10 minutes to go which made for a nail biting finale to the game with thistle somehow not getting a penalty when Scott was again scythed down by the home team goalkeeper. In fairness, St Combs should also have had a penalty a couple minutes later when Hyland chopped down their centre forward but again play was inexplicably but to the relief of thistle waved play on.
Thistle held on though for a good win in what was a really well fought game by both teams. Credit to St Combs for a great contest.

The home side didn’t help themselves after a poor pass back by Smith let in Marc Watt to fire home. Another mistake by the Mormond defence let in Watt again to double the Invercairn lead. Mormond were then reduced to 10 men after Scott Wisley received a straight red card after he had scythed down Scott Wisley. Lawrence added a third goal after Allan could only parry a shot into the path of Lawrence who stroked it home. Mormomd rallied and pulled a goal back with a 20-yard free kick from Daniel Smith. This eventually paid off when glenugie broke from a Cuminestown corner, with Cameron brown laying off Mark Thompson who volleyed the ball over their keeper from around 20 yards.
The 2nd goal was from a Ben McKenzie kick, which bounced kindly over the two defenders to Cameron Brown who raced through to get his first of the game.
2-0 HT
Glenugie started well in the second half with good passing, and we started to apply more pressure. This paid off when Martin Best burst through 2 defenders into the box to set up brownies 2nd.

Glenugie were heading for a clean sheet until the ball broke through and Ross Mann took down their striker in the box with a last-ditch tackle. The penalty taker dispatched to Ben’s left, with Ben almost getting a hand to it.

LINK UP secured promotion back to League One after a five-year absence with a second 9-2 home win in the space of a few days after a dominant triumph over Peterhead United.
After just seven minutes Link Up opened the scoring when David Dalgarno's through ball sent Iain BISSET racing, managing to get well clear of his marker and finishing across the keeper.
Dalgarno could have made it 2-0 moments later when he beat the offside trap to find himself in on goal, and although he rounded the keeper a United defender managed to get back in time to prevent the finish.
Martin Sinclair made a strong one-handed stop as the early chances continued to flow, and it was the visitors who drew level after 12 minutes when a cross from the left floated straight in at the back post.
But just three minutes later the Lizzie regained their lead when the United keeper fumbled in Calum Angus' corner from the right.
Shane Wall's glancing header from a terrific Bisset cross was only kept out by the bar, with Mark Mackintosh's long range drive on the rebound forcing a decent stop out of the goalkeeper.
Mackintosh had another sight of goal when his header from a corner clipped the outside of the post, but Link Up made sure of a third just before the half-hour.
Sinclair's kickout was flicked on by Dalgarno with WALL taking it round the keeper on his first touch and knocking it into an unguarded net.
Shortly after provider turned goalscorer when Aaron MacDonald fed DALGARNO inside the six-yard box to knock home.
And the game looked to be wrapped up by the interval when WALL tucked away a spot kick after a Peterhead defender was penalised for handball.
It was six right on half-time when Dalgarno broke clear on the left and his ball across the face inviting BISSET to make sure at the back post.
The goals continued in the second half with MacDonald teeing up WALL and then delivering the corner for Keith-David NICOL.
And WALL got his fourth of the evening by rounding the keeper late on.
Peterhead got a consolation right at the end as Link Up stopped just short of hitting a milestone century of league goals.
Promotion has been secured but the league title is what was in Link Up's scope from the off - and a title decider against Methlick still to come.

The 2nd half was played at a slower pace, with Glenugie looking to keep the ball and create well worked chances.
Callum Gasson doubled the Ugie’s advantage when he got on the end of a Mark Thompson cross, stroking the ball home into the far-right corner, and he managed to make it 3-0 shortly after, slotting the ball between the keepers’ legs after running onto a Scott Tonks through ball.
Cameron Brown joined in the goal scoring, racing past the Ardallie defence to send the ball into the back of the net.
The fifth goal was another cross from mark Thompson, this time lofted from the left to the back right of the box, finding Dean Donald who volleyed it straight back into the left hand side of the goals for his first goal for the club.
The 6th goal was arguably the best of the night, with Euan Donald finding himself trapped near the by line to the left of the goals. He managed to Cruyff turn his way out back towards goals and fire across to the back post from the tightest of angles to score his 3rd of the season!

First goal came from the every present Declan Abel in the middle of the park who stole the ball and slotted a superb ball opening the back four up for trialist for the day Daz Chapman to come off the right wing and a slot the ball home for our first.
1-0 Town.
Town looked the stronger side early on but a mix up at the back saw Milne came inside to slot past man mountain Scott Broon which took our boys aback to be fair. We were initially on top possession wise
Into the second part of the first half we started to gain control and with Nathan Fraser making some excellent runs down the left got in behind the back four again with a calm head slotted the ball home.
Again St. Combs started to come back at us using the wing and gradient of the hill.
Centre back pairing David Forbes and the mighty Ryan Catto thwarted everything through the middle. Our 2 wing backs of Aaron Webster and injured right back Robert McRitchie were fit to snuff out any attack down our sides.
Centre middle pair Declan and Graeme Smith combining for a quick pass to Daz who pushed on with a pass to Jamie Benzie who dummied the ball which fell to the feet of Nathan, who calmly looked up to see Jamie in the box for an easy tap in. A brilliant all-round goal from the lads. 1-3 Ctown
Mid way through the second half St Combes legs started tiring and with Ryan Acott getting a second wind was bulldozing his way through the home team. Their defenders not having the strength to battle with him.
A long ball played down field by Scott Brown saw Jamie put a through ball to Ryan who beat his tired marker and was faced with the keeper but managed to slot the ball home to take Pontes got a second goal for the hom3e side to complete the scoring.

Just after the half hour Lizzy drew level when a Bissett shot was deflected past his own keeper. Methlick had a let off when a head er was pushed on to the post by keeper Elliot and rebounded to Angus who fired over from 6 yards. The match changed when Anderson was sent off for Methlick for a second caution. Aitkinhead for Link up had to be taken off with a nasty gash straight to hospital. Link off pressed forward and got their reward when John McKinnon fired them in front then scored a second minutes later from 12 yards. Kin injury time David Dalgarno played a neat one two with Shane Walls and stroked home a fourth goal. Full time blew and the celebrations begun.

Saturday 25 September Boddam Cup Semi Final
Glenugie 6-1 Macduff AFC
Glenugie booked their place in the Boddam Cup final 48hrs after their quarter final match with an incredible 6-1 result against Macduff.
Adam Swanston played a long through ball into the box, where after a few bobbles Cameron Brown managed to send the ball into the bottom corner to open the scoring.
The 2nd goal was route 1 football, with Jamie Buchan sending it long from his own box, to find Daniel Mair who flicked it on towards Cameron Brown who ran through and slotted the ball home for his 2nd of the game. 2-0 HT
The Ugie conceded shortly after half time with a goal from Kyle Barclay, and an even 10 minutes or so followed.
The 3rd goal was a crossed ball into the box which wasn’t dealt with fully by Macduff, as when it broke near the edge of the box for Cameron Brown his volley was smashed into the bottom corner.
The 4th was a goal from Cameron Brown (surprise surprise) who ran through on goal, past a defender and rounding the keeper before stroking the ball into an empty net.
The 5th goal was a Euan Donald assist for a Brandon Johnston goal, which BJ soon followed up with a second, this time with a header from a Calum Fraser cross.
FT 6-1
The squad have done the club proud today, without having a full 16 and being so close to the previous match, 6-1 is an excellent score against a good side.

Boddam Cup Final
5 start Brown seals the day for Glenugie
This was the first Boddam Cup Final in the Nesfa Welfare Football League, and this was played in a very windy day with driving rain at times. Elizabethan Link Up faced arch rivals Glenugie United.
12 mins gone and Glenugie struck first with the Link Up defence all stopped to claim offside but Mair strode through to slot home. Brown made it 2 nil with a neat finish from the right side of the box. Brown should have made it 3 but shot straight at the keeper when through on goal. Link up pulled a goal back when McKinnon struck home from close range. Brown then scored a quick double, one from close then one from edge of the box. An own goal completed a miserable half from Link Up. HT 1 – 5
Link up made 2 changes at half time and one Graeme McLeman made a difference to the Link up second half performance but poor defending left Brown in on goal and he rounded the keeper to put into an empty net. McLeman hit a second link up goal with a free kick from 20 yards which went in off the post. Brown then notched his fifth with a shot that trickled through the Link Up keeper who should have done better. Link Up scored the last goal when they were awarded a penalty which John MacKinnon converted.
On the day Glenugie were far the better team all over the pitch and with man of the match Cameron Brown firing in 5 goals ended the deserved winners.
The officials handled the game with ease and let the game flow.
The league would like to thank Boddam and John Eden for a great playing surface on the day and the presentation.
